- 06:00 meet at the harbour.
- 06:30 depart.
- 1 to 2 hours travelling to the fishing grounds.
- Until about 15:00 fishing.
- 16:00 to 17:00 back in the harbour.
That is a published Hout Bay example. A shorter 8-hour charter from the V&A Waterfront runs 06:00 to 14:00 with about 4 hours of fishing. Some operators list 12-hour trips.
Full Day Options
- Offshore tuna. The main full-day trip, roughly September to June. See tuna fishing.
- Yellowtail and snoek. A full day around Cape Point gives more time to find shoals.
- Combined. Tuna and yellowtail on one day when conditions allow.
How to Prepare
- Sleep well and eat a light breakfast.
- Take seasickness medication before you leave, if you use it.
- Pack layers. It is cold at dawn and can be hot by midday.
- Bring food if the trip does not include lunch.
- Bring a large cooler box with ice for your catch.
- Tipping the crew is customary but optional.
Who It Suits
Anglers who want a real chance at tuna and can handle a long day on open water. Check with the operator before bringing young children.

Weather and Cancellations
Offshore full days are cancelled more often than inshore trips. Keep a backup day in your plans. The skipper decides, and rescheduling follows the operator's policy.

Full Day Fishing Charters Cape Town FAQs
How long is a full day fishing charter?
Published full days run from 8 to 12 hours, harbour to harbour, including travel time.
Is lunch included?
On some trips. One Hout Bay operator publishes muffins, fruit and drinks on the way out and sandwiches or roast chicken for lunch. Others include snacks only. Check the quote.
What if we catch nothing?
Catches are never guaranteed and you pay for the trip, not the fish. Ask operators how recent trips have gone.
Will I get seasick?
Offshore swell can affect anyone. Take medication before you leave the harbour, eat a light breakfast and stay on deck in fresh air.
Can I join a shared full day?
Yes. Shared tuna trips are sold per person, from about R3,500 to R5,500, but need enough bookings to launch.
